I was emailed this today and thought I would share.
This is a new video series that gives us a behind the scenes look at some of today's top designers. It's being launched by The Business of Fashion and the series will be called "Inside The Studio".
The first in this series focuses on *Giles Deacon. Deacon is a graduate of Central Saint Martins. Now 36, he is an industry veteran, having worked at Bottega Veneta & Gucci, then under Tom Ford. He started his own label in 2003 & won the British Fashion Designer of the Year in 2006.
I think these are extremely important to watch if you are at all interested and truly appreciate fashion - new or old.
In today's world of mass produced items it is imperative to realize the craft that goes behind really great fashion. People often wonder why some clothes fetch the price they do and when you see a clip like this you realize the work and time that goes into creating a truly extraordinary garment.
It also gives you a glimpse into what has gone into constructing your favorite vintage dress. Most dresses and garments constructed to the late fifties were constructed in the manner that "couture" or high end fashion is constructed today and that are showcased in this clip. They are done and made by hand, meticulously finished, and with hours, and in some cases, weeks or months of work, by a team of skilled seamstresses and craftsman. It's also a fascinating glimpse of the mindset of someone who can create & design at this level.
I invite you to watch this trailer and to look for future versions under this same blog title
