The picture above is of Rosemary Rodriguez, the new creative director at Thierry Mugler, with models from her new collection. There is a lot of labels coming back and attempting to reinvent themselves - Ossie Clark, which seems to be off to a steady but not fabulous start, Biba, which has already folded (again!!), Halston, who seems so far at least to be a success and more. The question, when attempting to revive a label or even when attempting just to keep it going after the original creative genius of the house is gone, the question is whether you remain true to the original vision of the designer or attempt to strike off on your own. When asked about her view on this and what she does after viewing and going through the Mugler archives, Rosemary said;
“What’s important is not to just remake these pieces,” ..... “What I do is to take a mental image of the piece, and then bring out the good points. The trick is to make a collage of those elements and what is now.” Hence, her collections of pointy-shoulder velvet jackets and handwoven tassel-fringe dresses. Besides, Rodriguez added, “It’s very simple to just remake something that’s already been done. But if you want that, just go buy vintage.”
