Rachel Rachel Rachel

So rumor has it that Rachel Zoe will be launching her own clothing line soon and it is reportedly being called I Die. Which now makes the talk back in early February about a lawsuit stopping a start up T-shirt company using her trademarked sayings "I Die" & "Bananas", make sense. And she has alluded to this being the next step in her career since season one of her Bravo show. However, there are now reports that she has said

"It will be absolutely, 100% accessible fashion for sure — for everybody. There’s no reason for me to do a luxury-level design. That’s not who I am. I don’t think it’s what people want from me. I think that I would need to give people that fantasy becoming a reality. That’s my job.”

Now don't get me wrong, a Halston type line where dresses are in the $5,000 range are not what I want (and let me clarify that I LOVE the new Halston - am still just sad that it costs so much at the exact same time my entire stock portfolio went south). But I do want to see a line that a girl who LOVES vintage is going to do properly. One of the reasons why vintage reigns supreme, besides the exclusivity factor, is its craftsmanship. Exquisite seaming, brilliant cutting, use of fabric without care of salvaging those last few inches so your production costs go down 20%. Vintage is about doing finished proper buttonholes, cutting on the bias, using stunning, beautiful, to DIE for fabrics. Rachel, please do not tell me you are doing a line where things will be cheap - on either the workmanship or price point level. I know things are not brilliant out there right now but churning out endless items aimed at the masses is frankly, part and parcel the reason why we got to this point in the first place.

Your job is to create those smashingly fabulous outfits that make girls look like little goddesses on the red carpet. We will pay a fair price to get some of that. My fingers are crossed that the vintage loving side of you comes shining through on this....

Maybe she can get Todd Oldham to consult -- he's "good" with inexpensive lines.

I'm feeling positive about this new venture. And I'm looking forward to it. She's too exacting to put out cheap crap. I think it would embarrass her. Don't you think? I wish they (whomever "they" is) would include spellcheck on the comments section.

I too look forward to it - I just get scared when I hear a celeb say they are doing something for "everyone" need I say SJP and Bitten? (was that even how it was spelled?) Don't you find that sometimes the person gets lost somewhere in between the idea and the publicists and managers and corporations backing them? My fingers are wholeheartedly crossed. I would just like to hear more from her on this!!

I agree...I think they get lost in the hype and I'm sure the promise of bags of money. Initial ideas and visions are whittled away. I'm sure it must be incredibly hard to stay true to your original ideas and be strong. If she does jewelry...KJL is a good price point. In the end, I hope it's quality and stays true to her. If it is, I'll be one of her best costumers.
