more bits and bites

Love this picture of Nicole Kidman - its from a spread in Vogue Italia

I actually really like Kim Kardashian - love that she rocks her body and says a big FU to the skinniness of Hollywood. But it drives me nuts to see those charms on her Birkin.
Seems sacrilegious for some odd reason.
and its too young for her.

lady gag looks like a real girl here -that is more shocking then her insane(ly fabulous) stage costumes to me - weird how that is the case no?

THIS is the lady Gaga we know and love

uh huh - don't fix what ain't broken darlin'

The story here was that Charlize Theron had a 2 hour delay and then had to wait another hour for her baggage. Yet she still managed to look fresh and fabulous. How annoying. The story for me was that I now have an intense craving for that Dior bag. I have the smaller version in red and seriously regret not buying the bog over-sized version now.
damnations

I defy you to be able to identify who that is at first glance
- Nope not telling yet -
lets just say I was floored

Bits and Pieces

New or Vintage?
You tell me - Nicole Kidman is a vintage fan and has a vintage collection.
So is this dress she wore last night real or vintage?

Anne Hathaway wore this gold sequined Vivianne Westwood dress a day or two ago.

Do you like?

Vivienne is a true legend - she opened her first shop back in 1969 with Malcolm McLaren, manager of the Sex Pistols. She is one hell of a woman too - one day I am going to write a long blog post on her. She was (and still is) focused on street culture and fashion WAYYYYY before it was even a marketing term. She is also has the odd privilege of being one of the only designers whose vintage pieces have been faked en masse and to great profit. Like a big clothing roll out of fake Louis Vuittons. Read this and have something cool to say at your next cocktail party.

The silhouette Anne is wearing is all classic Vivienne - some of you will hate it - but her fans love it. When you wear a Westwood dress you KNOW you are wearing a Westwood dress. Why fix what isn't broken?

One of our fave vintage girls - Nicole Ritchie is in London to launch her new line Winter Kate, wearing a chiffon dress form her line paired with opaque tights and a hat. Winter Kate is a full line of apparel and is described as having a "vintage yet classic aesthetic. The collection is inspired by timeless prints and shapes, beautiful paisley and florals"
Jump here to peek at bits of it on her website.
Like Kate Moss, it seems Nicole has taken to going through her personal collection of vintage treasures for "inspiration".
What do you guys think of this?

Personally, I think all these "vintage inspired" lines are fun, but they if a girl wants to know that she is the only girl who will be wearing a dress in the room - well then, stick to shopping for vintage with moi.

The Country Music Awards 2009

The 2009 Country Music Awards saw no vintage walking down the runway (poo) but a definite trend one the one shoulder dress. I am actually a teeny tiny bit sad to see so many one shoulder pieces floating about these days. It's like the song you have heard on the radio too many times and are starting to get a little sick of. It use to be that if you appeared out in a one shoulder dress it was because you scored some fabulous vintage piece, but now its like everybody makes their version.

Ranting about designers jumping on the trend bandwagon aside here are some of the better dresses I have pulled from those seen last night on the red carpet

Nicole Kidman wore this dramatic sequin number from L'Wren Scott. Scott's designs seem to be appearing more and more at events don't you think? I love the sexy open back but am tossed up about the stark front. Nicole can definitely pull off the look with her long, lanky frame but I would have loved to see this same dress in COLOR.

Here's the first of our one shoulder gowns of the night
Martina McBride wore this beaded shoulder Badgley Mishka for a Grecian Goddess look

Taylor Swift's one shoulder gown is much more structured and formal.
I love this Angel Sanchez gown on her. She chose the right red for her coloring

This Robert Rodriguez gown worn by Jennifer Love Hewitt is actually one of my favorites.
It is very simple but so pretty and fresh. She is getting slammed a bit for playing it too safe.
I think she played it pretty, which is an entirely different thing.
It also has very strong vintage lines so I am completely biased of course

Miley Cyrus' one shoulder Monique Lhullier gown is again different from the others - its in jersey and gathered at the waist for a more va-voom effect. Miley always poses like a little girl, which she really is if you think about it. it is just that when she wears a very grown up dress like this, you really notice the dichotomy between girl and woman.

Finally, here is Marissa Miller in Dolce & Gabbana
and I only post this to show you that there really is nothing new under the sun.
I mean doesn't this remind just a teeny bit of this dress:

Uh huh you got it.
