Celebrity Vintage Spot - Vanessa Hudgens

After what seemed like a blight on celebrities wearing vintage last year (is there a correlation between the economy and wearing vintage do you think??) they seem to be jumping back into the "I want to be the only girl wearing this" attitude instead of "I want to be wearing the newest thing off the runway"

That makes me a happy girl. I love when celebrities wear vintage. Mainly because it gives all of us vintage loving girls top notch styling tips.  But also because it demonstrates that really great vintage lasts. A gorgeous dress is a gorgeous dress. Period. Old or new. Older just happens to usually be more interesting and better made then today's -good for one season only- pieces.

I love Ossie Clark. There is something about the drape, the cut, the fabrics, the colors - he was just in his own groove. It's not that he re-invented the wheel, he just made it sexy. Every time I see an Ossie I think of a line I read years and years ago that went along the lines of "a girl just can't have a bad time when she wears an Ossie Clark". I have to tell you - so far that line has been the gospel truth for me. Silly, but I like to think of my Ossie's like magic charms. A girl is prettier, sexier, longer, leaner and more alluring in one - even a girl like me who is only super model height in her own mind.

Vanessa Hudgen wore a black wrap moss crepe Ossie Clark for Quorum at a premiere recently. It's one of his earliest pieces which makes is roughly 46 or 47 years old. Double the age of her almost. She knocked it out of the park. It looks as young and fresh as if it was indeed,  the newest thing off the runway.

Hard to argue the theory of "a girl just can't have a bad time when she wears an Ossie Clark" when you see these pictures. There is no way a girl who looks like this in that dress had a bad night.

Lilly Allen in Biba!

Oh how I love to see a celebrity rock their Ossie Clark errrr Biba frock!

(This is why one should never blog first thing in the morning before one has had at least 2 coffees. One of my followers on Twitter has let me know that this is in fact a vintage BIBA, NOT an Ossie Clark. Ironically now that I am more awake I not only recognize it as such but I actually have its twin in black in my archives - feel free to laugh at me in the comments - goes to show you no one is immune to moments of idiocracy)

I especially love that side shot where you can really get an idea of how fabulous those tightly cuffed - insanely long button sleeves go up the arm before they billow out into intoxicating fullness! My only teeeny tiny stylist voice that is wayyyy at the back of my head is saying - Lilly that bust is a tad too tight but I will forgive her - it's not like she can have one of her people run to the shop and exchange it after all! I also would have worn a lighter looking shoe with this so just the dress was allowed to shine center stage, however its saved by the length of the dress and the fabulous, romantic up-do!

An Ossie Biba celebrity vintage spot is always a fantastic one to see!

Real Life Vintage Spot - Laura in Ossie!

Gorgeous Laura posted this picture of herself in her printed Ossie Clark plunge maxi just for moi on Twitter (She is @laurakitty & I am @shrimptoncoutur if you want to follow us!)
Is she a beauty or what? How could I not post this!

Laura is not just a stunner to look at but she also has an amazing blog called sighs and whispers. I have been following it for a while and once I realized how utterly addicted Laura is to all things pretty and vintage I started to campaign to have her do the occasional guest post round here.

To my delight she has agreed! Watch for that to happen soon!

Celebrity Vintage Spot - Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchette is one of my absolute favorite actresses. If she is in a movie I must see it. She is probably one of the few people in the world that would make me nervous should I get to meet her. So I was just overjoyed to see that like all of my favorite fabulous girls she is a vintage fashionista at heart.

Here she is in making her debut Celebrity Vintage Spot here on the blog in a classic Ossie Clark gown in the most wonderful orange -red
and Oh what A debut it is

Perfection

It's also a somewhat ironic twist given that I just wrote about the demise of the Ossie Clark relaunched version in this week's Herald De Paris column. How can you compete with an original Ossie Clark when an original looks like this when worn by a girl like Cate?

Bye Bye Ossie

Its Official the relaunched label Ossie Clark is closing its doors

A spokesperson for the company told WWD today
"Due to market conditions, developing the business has been challenging and the decision has been made to cease trading,"

I have to say that the collection never truly hit the mark for me - it lacked that extra bit of magic that seems to be infused in original Ossie Clark pieces. But it was not always a miss here are a few of my picks from the last collection - Fall/Winter 2009-10 .

Although I have to admit as I look the pictures over that they all look eerily like they came out of the archives. Maybe that is why I like em.

Ahh hell, just buy an original will you?

NEW ITEM - Only Available Here! Ossie Clark

1970s Red Moss Crepe Corset Dress from Ossie Clark

I have had this beauty tucked away for a while now and pulled it for my client yesterday but she chose another Ossie form my collection. Since I showed it to her, its only fair that the rest of you get a shot at it too! This is a rare corset dress from the great Ossie Clark in red moss crepe. I have tied the front ties fairly simple for these pictures but you can get as wild as you want in how to tie them! This is THE original bondage inspired dress!

It is a LOT brighter red in person and has those crazy ass medieval sleeves that show up every once in awhile on an Ossie. You will not see this dress very often and it is a must have for collectors! You better buy it before I change my mind because I am already crying a bit as I write this! It is of course, immaculate as are all Shrimpton Couture items.

Will fit a modern 4-6.
The waist is extremely forgivable so if you are bigger and small through the shoulders and have thin arms you can still wear it!

This dress is ONLY available through the blog until the new site is up and running!

The Great Ossie Clark - They Can Be Yours!

I have some amazing news.

I recently have arranged to be able to take direct credit cards as a payment method so shopping with me will be a lot easier! However, to do so meant that I had to have Shrimpton Couture customized (yet again) and this time I have decided to go for it 100% and have it custom designed from scratch! That is being done now behind the scenes and while it is happening I don't want to add a ton of new items to Shrimpton Couture (it just adds to the workload of my web guy who has to transfer all the items over to the new site and how much I have to pay him lol). I don't want to stop posting items either and cut my clients off cold so I have decided to post NEW items here on the blog that you can buy!

Celebrity Vintage Spot - Nicole Ritchie

I cannot believe I forgot to throw this one up. Its Nicole Ritchie in a vintage Ossie Clark jacket over a tee and jeans. This is a great way to take what was meant as an evening piece back in the day, and yank it into the now!
