Vintage Celebrity Spot

Here is Katie Holmes at the Brazillion premiere of Valkyrie in a red-and-green sequined vintage Christian Lacroix dress that she has added a blue velvet ribbon to for a pop of color.

If you are a regular you know I can get a little annoyed at the constant Kate bashing that goes on. I just don't get why the people with the most fabulous lives, and who tend to take the most style chances get the most bashed upon.

Which in an ironic twist, the same looks and seemingly outlandish fashion combinations that those same stars wear, seem to somehow make their way into the mainstream fashion consciousness in a season or two - but by then its perfectly OK uh huh yeah - though I will concur that for the most part it is because the original fabulous push the envelope, in your face look has been toned down and dullified by the "just living her life" kind of girl, but I will not get on my sopbox today. If I was going to I MIGHT take the rest of this sentence to point out that Miss Kaite Holmes was VILIFIED for wearing peg leg jeans that drooped down in the ass 6 moinths ago, and ODDLY ENOUGH both the "boyfriend" jean and the harem pant are two of the strongest trends this season. But why waste a sentence on what we already know right?

The point is that I rather like Kate. I like that she is doing exactly what she wants, and seems to have a very happy life despite the constant barrage of persons trying to say that she does not. And she has good short hair. Its shiny and lovely and falls just right. And she seems to be a terrific mom and despite allthe mean comments you see in the media I get the distinct impression that Tom and Katie are in for-real-love. And she wears vintage. Quite regularly in fact and one day she will stumble across me and my blog and little on-line shop and she will come by my soon-to-be-constructed studio and I will find out that she is a fabulous person and I have been right all along and then I will very publicly say fuck you haters.

Cause I am the kind of girl who goes to bat for her clients
uh huh yeah

Hey there
I totally agree With you about Katie, I love love love her
but can you really call a fall 2007 couture dress Vintage?
Just thought I would let you know!

I actually did know this was from 2007 but thoguht what the hell, who I am to argue with the person that sold it to her as vintage?
It is being labeled as vintage all though the net though so I went with it. And I have seen worse - like, did you know that Angelina's vintage Hermes gown was like from the 2002 or 2003 collection (correct me if I am wrong here Mr. A - the shows for Hermes only get posted since JPG took over for the 2004 seasons)

How is that vintage either?

I do sell a few select current RTW pieces on Shrimpton Couture. But they are marked current and I do not consider them vintage. Maybe future vintage. Maybe. More accurately, they are "cleaning out my overburdened closet and those of my equally shop-a-holic girlfriends.
But not vintage.
So I do agree with you Mr. A that you really should NOT call a dress from 2007 vintage
but I like to look at it like this:

If a dress from 2007 is now called Vintage then that means that Vintage is sooooo acceptable as a term to describe anything fabulous, but not new, and so fucking cool to be seen in, even if you can buy anything in the whole wide world, then that means that Vintage has become a common everyday descriptive word, it has now reached that elusive status that couture has also achieved. Some hate that and I do as well at time but the fact remains that

Vintage has become a catch word for the ordinary girl to describe fashion thatshe did not buy this year or that she did not buy herself first.

Catch word, baby

Now please understand that the ONLY WAY this new use of the word works for a die-hard, vintage loving, vintage defending girl like me is.....

when you shop for vintage with me of course silly!
