Fashion Snapshots

(see who that is behind me? It's Ben Mulroney - he's super nice too - must be a Canadian thing)

I know I still owe you guys a post about the Halston event - I have just been swamped. I am going to post this quick pic that Fashion Magazine has up on their blog though. This is what I wore to the Greta Constantine show. Its vintage 1970s Galanos, YSL Tributes, a vintage Hermes red leather clutch and I have an armful of red Hermes bangles - new & vintage. I topped it with a brown and white lightweight jacket that was the same length as the dress and on the dress I had a slew of blue stoned rhinestone vintage brooches (hence the blue shoes). It is still OK with the shoes on their own but I should have thought it out better for when I removed the jacket. It's always weird to see pics of yourself after an event. I tell my clients to always take a photo BEFORE they step out the door but then never remember for myself because I am invariably running behind OR I am dressing in a hotel, so am stuck with what I brought, even if I have a last minute change of heart.

The show itself was wonderful. I was seriously impressed with the Greta Constantine line for women this season. Draped, easy to wear, spectacular dresses. Check out the coverage on Fashion Magazine here and I would also hop to the Flare site too for their coverage - Lisa Tant, editor of Flare, was my seatmate and hook-up for the show.

(thank you Lisa- you're the best!!)

Lisa had these fabulous Moschino shoes she had just picked up in Italy (that's the link to her Blog on Flare.com) and everyone kept coming up to her and asking her where she had bought them. Gotta love a fellow shoe girl.

And that handsome guy in the middle?
That is My Guy, who crashed front row his first show.
Looks rather smug there no?

Maggie rocks a vintage YSL dress.
Love the dress - can't say I love those shoes paired with it
I would have loved to see something lighter and strappier.
Do you agree?

Celebrity Vintage Spotting- The Awards Season

During the awards season I always end up sulking a little

Krya Sedwick in Vintage Chanel from Rare

The reason being that I start seeing all these terrific photos of celebrities wearing glamorous vintage pieces. Now I know I do these celebrity vintage spots as a fairly regular thing so I bet most of you just went "huh?" But it's true.

One of the disadvantages of having an on-line business and no actual publicly accessible physical space to shop, and then adding to that the fact that I am not in a major American city close to the starlets (read LA or New York), the disadvantage to that is that Gwennie or Nicole don't just pop in one day with stylist trailing after them to find the perfect dress.

Julia Roberts in vintage YSL from Frock

Most of my celebrities....

and by that I mean the ones you actually can see on the small or big screen, not just you fabulous girls who think you are a celebrity-in-your-own-mind
that's right - I mean you Miss

.....most of them are really girls who are just like you. I only have one celebrity that I have to wade through three assistants to actually get to - the others are surprisingly real and accessible - they just have secret codename hotmail accounts. They buy vintage because they LOVE/ARE OBSESSED WITH/LUST AFTER/MUST OWN and generally are nutty about vintage just like you and I. And you tend to forget that they are celebrities because just like when you shop with me - its all done in a series of mouse clicks and emails.

But it still doesn't take away the fact that I do have a bit of a sulk on during awards season because I can't really dress anyone with my current set-up. I am too far away and honestly for an occasion like that, a girl needs to try on a million dresses - real girl or celebrity, right?

I still love seeing the celebrities in vintage on the red carpet though and I am smashingly proud whenever a celeb chooses vintage over the VAST array of designer duds available these days. And most of the frocks being worn out there are on loan or purchased from some of the really great vintage dealers, so I am always a little proud of the industry in general in spite of my mini sulks.

Perhaps one day I will have to open a little space somewhere.

Sunnie Days Ahead

If you are a regular reader of The Glamourai's blog you know that for a while she has been customizing vintage sunnies. She takes the original frames and has the lenses replaced - selecting hues and graduations at whim to produce one of a kind fabulous pieces!

Her capsule collection of jewels and baubles that she has
(and still is making- watch for new necklaces in the next few days)
for Shrimpton Couture is a hit
and by hit I mean if you like a piece you better grab it cause they FLY out the door and are often reserved for their new owner before I even get them.
Which is good becasue then I cannot keep them all!

I kept seeing Kelly wearing these gorgeous creations on her blog and being me, decided I had to have a collection for my lovely clients. And again, being me, demanded that they be made from snooty designer frames to match all of the lovely vintage couture my gorgeous clients have. And my darling Kelly, has not only filled that request, but went straight to the top as far as designers go!

Her first official exclusive capsule collection of self-designed vintage couture sunnies are all made from vintage YSL frames.

SIX wonderful creations are headed my way!

Each is a one-of-a-kind creation and tres brilliant as one would expect.

There was some vintage appearances at the recent Serpentine Party as well as some pretty new frocks as well.
My faves!

The Serpentine Gallery Summer Party - Outside Arrivals

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley paired a Topshop sequined bolero over a 1930s vintage dress.

The Serpentine Gallery Summer Party - Arrivals

Model Jade Parfitt wore this killer dress which I believe is from Top Shop

Natalia Vodianova looks stunning as usual

The Serpentine Gallery Summer Party - Outside Arrivals

Which just goes to show how much those silly girls do not know

The Serpentine Gallery Summer Party - Outside Arrivals

Jo Wood (pictured here with her daughter Leah) wore a vintage capelet and I had a moment of recognition when I realized its a pretty close match to the vintage remnant piece used in this RSVP gown

The Serpentine Gallery - Summer Party

Yasmin Le Bon and Linda Evangelista both went for full black gowns

as did model Elle Macpherson

Sprouse? YSL? YEP

Some fab and rare pieces are now listed at Shrimpton Couture
just waiting for you to snatch up!

First up - this 1995 Stephen Sprouse for Barney's!
This was a short term collection he did exclusively for Barneys and is extremely collectible!

Its a ton brighter then its pictured
that true neon pink that you see on the Sprouse prints so popular over at Louis Vuitton

And just for a little celebrity linkage - Agness Deyn was recently spotted out and about in HER vintage Sprouse jacket (I like mine better)

If a Sprouse isn't fab enough,
how about an insanely gorgeous Yves Saint Laurent piece from the late 1970s?

Killer seamed sleeves

Classic fabric placement to create visual interest and a pattern reminiscent of Yves many holidays in Morocco

and did I mention its a sexy little mini too?

Click here to see ALL the gorgeous mouthwatering vintage and reconstructed pieces from vintage just listed!!

NEW ITEM
Gorgeous 1970s Yves Saint Laurent Silk Jacket

This jacket is to die. It is butter soft silk with a blue trim and floral pattern. And guess what? Each of those flowers is made of four little hearts! This is an earlier piece and has been worn and loved. Its not flawed, but rather broken in, the silk is as soft as soft as can be and it feels like that perfect piece you have pulled on because, well, it never fails.
